    We are looking for a full-time Legal Assistant to join the WorkCover team at our Cranbourne office. 

    The Opportunity

    You will provide crucial administrative support by carrying out a range of secretarial tasks which will assist the functioning of one or more practice groups. You will be responsible for a range of legal support and administration accountabilities as assigned by your supervisors. These include but are not limited to:

    • Developing an understanding of the litigation procedures in the respective department.
    • Opening new files, preparing letters and correspondence, drafting medical-legal letters of instruction, compiling briefs and court documents
    • Compiling briefs and court documents.
    • File management - proactively liaising with the supervising solicitor and relevant parties to advance files.
    • General administration and filing.
    • Monitoring critical dates to ensure deadlines are met.
    • Maintain calendars and diary appointments.
    • Responding to general client and stakeholder inquiries via telephone and face to face.


    The Successful Applicant

    The Legal Assistant position at Zaparas will be both challenging and rewarding. We are looking for someone who:

    • Is a self-motivated individual who can work efficiently.
    • Has excellent communication skills and the ability to deal sensitively and confidently with clients.
    • Has great attention to detail and is able to complete tasks to a high standard.

    The Opportunity

    A great opportunity has arisen for a full-time WorkCover Lawyer to join our WorkCover team at our Epping office.

    The successful candidate will provide expert legal advice and services to our clients within specialist legal practice areas. The role involves legal research, precedent, gathering evidence, and preparing pleadings in court. The role has significant interaction with clients requiring positive client relationships, explaining the legal process as well as instructing other legal practitioners and administrative personnel as required. It includes taking instructions directly from clients, providing advice, and appearing and instructing in Court.

    The Successful Applicant

    • Perform file work, draft legal/court documents, prepare and compile briefs and court judgements.
    • Prepare matters for Conciliation, Medical Panel, and Court.
    • Appear and advocate for clients at directions hearings, conciliations, pre-issue conferences, VCAT conferences and the like.
    • Attend client meetings, court or barrister conferences.

    The Opportunity

    You will be responsible for carrying out a range of billing and administration tasks associated with the WorkCover litigation process.

    This includes but is not limited to:

    • Ensure invoicing and billing is completed & actioned in a timely manner
    • Drafting letters to the defendant’s solicitor and the client regarding settlement and costing.
    • Developing an understanding of the litigation and settlement procedures.
    • Having a clear understanding of the relevant Legal Costs Orders.
    • Maintaining records in both paper and electronic format ensuring content is up-to-date.
    • Liaising with barrister clerks and various medical practitioners.
    • Advising legal assistants/clients when settlement cheque is ready.
    • Liaising and negotiating reductions with Worksafe.
    • Preparing debtor lists and other necessary reports relating to outstanding amounts.


    The Successful Applicant

    We are looking for someone with strong administration skills preferably with a legal background.  

    • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing deadlines and deliver to strict and tight guidelines.
    • Demonstrate excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
    • Experience in file record-keeping (paper and electronic).
    • Great attention to detail and accuracy in your work. (e.g. data entry skills with minimal errors).
    • Be pro-active, responsive & action orientated.
    • Effective interpretation of numerical data to identify discrepancies and raise these with the finance manager promptly.
    • Honest, trustworthy and reliable and is able to handle highly sensitive financial information confidentially and appropriately.
    • Preferably 2+ years experience in a billing role within the legal industry.
